Quick Update

First of all, sorry for flooding the planet, I've changed my blog software and it screwed it up (or I did).

OK then, on to compiz stuff.

Compiz is looking really good for the Ubuntu 9.10 release. We're getting the bug count under control after letting it get crazy for some months and compiz is no longer the package with the single most bugs open. :) We've also only got one GPU blacklisted this time around, the Intel 845. Depending on updates to Xorg we may not even need that. We've also turned off the Unredirect Fullscreen Windows option by default. This may cause some performance regressions in fullscreen 3D games on some GPUs (only one reported case so far) but it also fixes a lot of the bugs making those same games hard to play with compiz enabled. No longer will your panel show on top of your game, no longer will your screensaver turn on while you're playing a game, no longer will a notify-osd popup make you look up at the sky and get fragged, etc.

The goal for the bug count for compiz by karmic release is 350 and we're getting close. Beta testers will probably push it back up but I can't hate them too much. ;)

More coming soon...

It's looking great as of Alpha 6 (with the latest updates as of 9/29/2009). Only significant problem I see is that it will not honor my setting to use /usr/bin/emerald as the Window Decorator (configured using Compiz Settings Manager - under Window Decorator). Is there a work-around for this? Right now, after I log in, I have to hit ALT-F2 and type "emerald --replace" to use Emerald.

Thank you for your great work.

hi,

I would like to know if you could reconsider to turn Unredirect Fullscreen Windows option by default ON again?
I Thought the option were turned off by accident, but as I read this I know it wasn't an accident.

For me it is also a big performance regression.

Achim

Hi, I've been stopping by planet.compiz.org but it seams dead for a while now, what is the status of the compiz -> compiz++ migration? will compiz++ be included in Ubuntu 10.04? Is compiz++ usable by now?

Regards,
Luis Davim

Travis: Emerald is going away? Why? I love Emerald? What is going to replace it? The default decorator is not nearly as beautiful and/or functional? What is the migration path? Are there any links explaining the way forward? I'd really love to know. Thanks again for the GREAT WORK!
